Actually, This is What You Believe

This past weekend, Kate Snow of Good Morning America posted a question to George Stephanopoulos about whether or not Mitt Romney’s LDS faith would be a big hurdle for him (politically speaking). George’s demonstrated response and investigative journalism is shoddy to say the least. Romney stated the following in a previous interview: Our belief is just like it says in the Bible, that the Messiah will come to Jerusalem, stand on the Mount of Olives, and the Mount of Olives will be a place where there’s a great gathering, and so forth. It’s the same as the other Christian...

What Is Mormonism?

It’s going to be a long two years. Here’s a story from the Washington Post that is very typical of what is being printed about the LDS Church in light of Mitt Romney’s presidential run. It’s the same old stuff – polygamy, blacks and the priesthood, Joseph Smith and on and on. Southern Baptist Convention warns Christians about teachings of Mormonism

The Southern Baptist Convention is at it again. “Rob Bowman with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) says Christians need to be aware that the beliefs of the Mormon Church are inconsistent with biblical Christianity. As one Mormon candidate launches his White House bid, the Southern Baptist official is urging Christians to take advantage of materials his denomination offers that teach the truth about Mormonism.” The SBC should know this: “Mormonism” is the religion most consistent with biblical Christianity. We do not apologize for our beliefs....

Love in the Afterlife

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal has an article titled Love in the afterlife featuring an interview with an LDS woman testifying about the reality of and potential for eternal marriage. The author of the article contrasts LDS beliefs on eternal marriage with those of other faiths. In a few days many Americans will observe Valentine’s Day, a holiday when people celebrate earthly love. However, for some, even lifelong relationships are simply preludes to personal connections that will last throughout time. Whether or not marriages can last for eternity depends on whom you ask and what...

Will Pope Benedict become a Mormon after he dies?

Reuters Religion Editor, Tom Heneghan, takes a few stabs at the sacred ordinances of the temple in this article. Heneghan states: “Church members are told to focus on their ancestors, a rite understandable in a relatively new denomination founded in 1830. But so many now perform the rituals for celebrities, heroes and perfect strangers that the practice has spun out of control.” Spun out of control? Our goal is to baptize all those who have lived before and did not have an opportunity to hear or accept the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Heneghan states that baptism for the dead has...

From myths to missionaries: Taking a look at the truth about Mormonism

Here’s a great article from the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s paper, The Gateway. The article aims to dispel rumors and misconceptions about the LDS Church. I found the article to be accurate and sincere in trying to educate a non-Mormon population about misconceptions common to the LDS Church.
